4 Days Kiting at Coche Island

I initially booked the hotel for only two nights but then decided to stay two additional nights. Coche can be pretty crowded but this time I lucked out. Everybody was training for the upcoming competition in El Yaque and there were only very few kiters in Coche. Often I was alone on the water. Perfect to progress in Freestyle. I also wanted to use my time alone in Coche to learn how to use my NIKON V2 camera. I am especially interested in learning how to take good photos of kiteboarders doing tricks. You can see the results in the photos. The hotel closest to the Coche Kite Sport Center and to the kitespot is the All-Inclusive Resort Punta Blanca. As I have a Venezuelan bank account, I preferred paying in Venezuelan Currency (Bolivar). I wrote an email to the hotel asking if they had a room available and if I could pay via a bank transfer. Three days later they answered me the following:

I took the 11am boat (zarpe) from El Yaque. By boat it’s about 20-30 minutes to Coche. You should be at the SUN SOL departure point half an hour early at least.

The hotel room is spacious and clean, the service is decent and the food is ok.

Important for coffee lovers like me: Hot milk for coffee is only available during breakfast. After 11am there is only black coffee.

Wind conditions in Coche: The wind in Coche blows offshore across the salt flats and beach and the water is super flat. Usually the wind picks up around 10/11am but this year El Yaque and Coche have been super windy and at 9am I was already inflating my 6m Cabrinha Siren Kite in Coche.

Kiting in Coche is great as long as there are less than 10-15 people. In 4 days of kiting about 4 hours a day, I was finally able to land my Railey to Blind and pass the bar more or less consistently. Here is one of my sessions recorded via my SUUNTO Ambit2 watch / Movescount :
