Campeonato Nacional WK – Venezuelan National Kitesurf & Windsurf Championship

The 3rd tour stop of the Campeonato Nacional Windsurf & Kitesurf 2014 took place in El Yaque from May 9th till May 11th, 2014. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to go to the first two stops. As I came back from Coche just before the start of the competition, I wasn’t able to train and try out the course like all the others. They didn’t put a schedule on the website or social media so it was hard for me to find out where and when registration was and when riders meetings will be held. I wrote them an email and they replied in a very friendly way where and when I could register. And through a friend who’s mom is with the organization I received the following itinerary:

  • 6pm Award Ceremony
  • 8pm Ceremony and Concert

Registration fee was 400Bs. and included Saturday’s dinner and lunch at the beach. My race number was 180. We ended up doing three races on Friday. Unfortunately it wasn’t clear to everybody that there will be a 3rd race. I asked and they confirmed even though the wind was below 12 knots which due to the rules is not enough for a competition. I ran to my kite but my lines got tangled and I missed the start. So this race became my discarded in the final score. Only three women were actually on the water for the third race.

Saturday there was no wind and I brought down our Taaroa hydrofoil board (the sword) and our 13m Cabrinha Velocity Kite and I was almost the only one on the water. I had lots of fun. It was almost windstill and perfect for foiling. In the evening I walked in the DRIKA bikinis runway show. At the same time they were showing the DRIKA promotional video that I was also part of.

As I didn’t compete in Slalom, I only had to do one more race on Sunday and then I was done for the day. But as everything is possible in Venezuela, I decided to stay at the beach – just in case 😉

And here is the video of the event:

Finally the competition was over and I was super stoked to be on the podium with my 2nd place!
