El Yaque Freestyle Crown Competition 2015

El Yaque Freestyle Crown competition organized by Luis Daniel Nuñez was held May 6th and 7th, 2015. The event was a great success. Of course I was super stoked about taking 1st place 😀 But more important was to bring back a great Freestyle event to El Yaque with national and international riders.

El Yaque Freestyle Crown is a kitesurfing and windsurfing competition. Among the participants in windsurfing were big names like José “Gollito” Estredo, Ricardo Campello, Douglas “Cheo” Díaz, Yoli De Brendt, Diony Guadagnino and Philip Soltysiak.

But as I’m a kiteboarder I will focus on kitesurfing 😉

The registration fee for the event was 1000Bs. and included lunch and two dinners. It was the first time that you could register online (http://tutorneo.biz) for a competition in El Yaque and I thought that was pretty cool.

Among the sponsors of the event were Monster Energy, Lunhoa bikinis, Siki Wear.

There were 3 great photographers taking pictures during the competition: Alain GalarneauFukjaz and Carlos Gonzalez:

I took photos from all three photographers so please let me know if you don’t agree!

Here are some of the male competitors:

Rider Men

And the female competitors:

Rider Women

Unfortunately the drawing of the heats resulted in me competing against my best friend and biggest competitor Maria Alejandra Gonzalez.

I won my first heat against Mary and continued winning my heats. The girls were riding strong and I was impressed by the kiting progress of young local riders Sophie Carache and Valentina Alvarez. The conditions were tough. I was overpowered on my 6m kite. Even though I didn’t land my best tricks in the final against Maria Pia Di Fiore, I ended up winning the competition and am super stoked about my 1st place. Congratulations to Maria Pia, Sophie and Valentina for their 2nd, 3rd and 4th place!

Here is a picture of our hard working judges and the event’s VIP guests Aaron Hadlow, Coleen Carroll and Craig Cunningham!

The biggest hope from El Yaque was Duglas “El Negro” Salazar. Unfortunately he injured himself while training hard prior to the competition. He decided to still compete but the pain was too strong to continue.

Other great Venezuelan riders participating were Yamil Saba and Oscar Tibi Hurtado. In the end, Colombian Rider Kenruis Bron Miranda claimed the Freestyle victory. Armando Sierra came in 2nd and Oscar Tibi Hurtado finished 3rd.
