Ibiza calling

It was on our bucket list to go party in Ibiza and and it has been on my mind for the past 10 years. I know, it doesn’t have much to do with kiteboarding. But as this blog is about kitesurf AND travel, I thought I give you my review of clubbing in Ibiza.

I asked my friend who has been to Ibiza lots of times for a hotel recommendation and he recommended either the Ocean Drive Ibiza or the Ibiza Gran Hotel. As this was suppose to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience (which doesn’t mean it’ll our last time clubbing in Ibiza 😛 ), Paul decided to go crazy and book us into a suite for our 4-nights stay in the Ibiza Gran Hotel. The hotel was great and our suite was amazing.

We were in Ibiza from Thursday till Monday. My dear friend from Berlin made it possible to put us on the guest list for Richie Hawtin’s ENTER at the Space Club for Thursday night and he also managed to put us on the guest list for Friday night (Marco Carola) at AMNESIA. I can’t say often enough how thankful I am and how lucky I feel to have such great friends. His recommendations were Thursdays ENTER @SPACE, Fridays AMNESIA and Mondays DC10.

We arrived Thursday evening, checked in at the hotel, changed and went to B.for Ibiza for some sushi to fuel up for a long night. The restaurant was located in walking distance very close to the hotel. It was quite a see & be seen restaurant. Sushi was not bad but service was kind of slow. We were planning to go early to SPACE as the ENTER.Sake starts at 10pm and my friend said it’s really worth it. ENTER.Sake is the island’s first true Sake Bar experience – an intimate Japanese inspired room with DJ sets from major guests starting each Thursday at 10pm. We arrived around midnight at the club and the club was already full. It was a cool atmosphere especially once they opened all rooms (they have lots of different rooms). We found out that the VIP wristbands we got would allow us to be backstage and dance BEHIND the Dj booth with Richie Hawtin’s and Dubfire’s crew and friends. The INNER CIRCLE 😉 Wow, what an experience. THANK YOU!!! We had such a blast.

As far as prices are concerned, you should be prepared: Entrance is 60EUR per person. A small water bottle in the club costs 9EUR and for a beer you have to pay 13EUR.

We partied all night and slept the entire next day. When we woke up, it was time to go to dinner. We wanted to try out the other close-by sushi place called Sushipoint. Their cocktails were to die for, the sushi was excellent and the service was good. Off to a good start. After dinner we walked back to the hotel to change and then took a taxi to AMNESIA. It was past midnight but this time the club was still quite empty. So we had some beers and waited. It got crowded pretty quickly.  Prices at AMNESIA are similar to the SPACE club. Regular entrance was 50EUR. The club has only 2 rooms – the darker main room and the room called terrace but it’s not open air (it used to be but now it has a glass roof). We were mostly in the main room and really enjoyed Joseph Capriati playing.

Once they closed the main room in the morning hours, the crowd inclusive us continued partying in the terrace room till they stopped playing the music and kicked everyone out.

And we were not the only kiters in the club

When we came out of the club, I was seriously thinking of going to our cafe to have my morning coffee. It was 9ish am.

As funny as it looks and as convincing as I can be, this photo was actually shot before going out the evening before. Paul made it clear that we would NOT go to the Cafe but straight back to the hotel to sleep. It was a really good decision. Again, we slept till the evening and then went out to have dinner at the old town of Eivissa. The hotel recommended us a couple of restaurants in Dalt Vila like La Oliva or El Olivo but we were not able to get a table. After walking around a while we found a bit hidden La Scala which ended up being quite a good choice.

Our last day, Sunday, passed by quickly without even doing much. So in the end, all we saw was a hint of Ibiza’s nightlife. But we had such an amazing time and that’s all that matters 😉
