Skiing & Snowboarding in Austria

We really like skiing and snowboarding in Saalbach, Austria (http://www.saalbach.com/). It’s only a 2h drive from Munich, Germany. 200 km of slopes (easy, intermediate and difficult slopes), 55 modern cable cars and lifts, 10 km cross-country tracks, WLAN hotspots even on top of the mountains, a ski bus, Apres Ski, Huts, Restaurants, Bars – Saalbach has it all. We wouldn’t have found this place if it wasn’t for their Rave on Snow-Party (http://www.raveonsnow.com/) in 2009 which is usually the kick-off of the winter season. Since then we have come here a couple of times to get our “winter/skiing/snowboarding-fix”. We’ve only made once the mistake to come during high season. At that time, it was Dutch Holidays and all the teenager from the Netherlands came to ski and snowboard in Saalbach. The slopes were packed and every so often you could see the rescue helicopter and people walking around with a cast. We were having more beer in the mountain huts than we were actually skiing. At least we didn’t kill ourselves on the slopes…

But this time we had a great time. We stayed in Saalbach from Sunday to Thursday (12/15/-12/19/2013). Paul was filming a lot with the GoPro and will soon put up some videos. Compared to places in the United States (for example Breckenridge, Colorado), there is just more variety in Saalbach. For us, Saalbach rocks!

  1. Let me know when you are the next time in Austria. Maybe there is some spare time for kitesurfing or snowkiting 😉
