TRIANGL bikini review from a Kitesurfer’s point of view

Lots of women have a thing for shoes. Me? I’m a bikini girl. I absolutely love bikinis. But finding the right bikini for kitesurfing has been an ongoing challenge for me for years. On Instagram I stumbled upon the TRIANGL bikinis and let myself get sucked into the hype. Could these bikinis made of neoprene be the ones that I have been looking for for years? Here is my TRIANGL bikini review – from a kitesurfer’s point of view:

TRIANGL is an Australian swimwear line. They have 172.000 Facebook likes and over a million followers on Instagram. So I thought that their bikinis must be amazing. I’ve read several blog reviews – practically all of them were positive reviews. I decided to write them an email. I explained that I’m a kitesurfer and I sent them some photos of me kitesurfing so that they would understand my special needs. I was honestly hoping that they would offer to send me a sample. Of course they didn’t. But I had a super friendly back and forth conversation in email and they convinced me to buy a bikini. I then used their 24h live chat to make sure I order the right sizes. They did a great job. Thumbs up. I ordered S for the top and M for the bottom. Even though I actually love bright colors, I decided to go with classic colors this time.

I ordered the optic white INDIANA ICE CHLOE bikini for 79US$. As shipping costs are a bit hefty at 20US$ and I was convinced that I’ll love the TRIANGL bikinis, I couldn’t resist ordering two bikinis (to take advantage of the shipping flatrate). My second choice was the NEW YORK NOIR CHLOE bikini. I used my mom’s address in Germany and the order arrived within their predicted timeframe of 3-10 business days. I was concerned that the package would land at customs. Not because of the customs clearing fees but because of all the hassle having to deal with them. German customs are no fun. Fortunately the package arrived at my mom’s house just like any other package and I didn’t even have to pay customs duties.

The bikini comes in a really cool neoprene beach bag.

I already knew that the bikinis will need some extra care. Putting a note in the package as a reminder was definitely helpful. The bikinis are hand wash, 100% Neoprene (I couldn’t find out the actual mm thickness of the neoprene fabric) and you should not crease or fold the bikini. That’s definitely a Con if you want to travel with the bikini.

I tried the bikini on and it seemed to fit well. I definitely liked the looks of it and I couldn’t wait trying the bikini out on the water while kitesurfing.

What are the features of my dream kitesurfing bikini ?

  • It has to be comfortable and should not hurt anywhere while doing tricks
  • It should be durable
  • Easy to get in and out
  • Has to stay in place. There is nothing worse than having to pull up your bikini every time after doing a trick.
  • It has to look cute, sexy and fashionable (not like an olympic swimmer’s bikini)

I first tried the bikini out at the Kitesurf World Cup in Germany. It was a hot day without wind. The walk to the beach in St. Peter-Ording is long. I was wearing the bikini underneath my clothes (Skirt and Tank Top) and I was literally sweating my ass off.  I’m not the person who likes laying in the sun for hours but I didn’t think that I would sweat that much in a neoprene bikini either.  So be aware that you might get sweaty when sunbathing, walking around etc.

After Germany I went to Brazil and I finally had the chance to try the bikini out while kitesurfing. Unfortunately it’s doesn’t do the trick there either. The square tassels at the end of the ties with the TRIANGL engravement really hurt while doing tricks as they swing around and constantly hit you.

They are also not comfortable while wearing a kitesurf waist harness. And after every crash, the bikini bottom part holds water due to the thick neoprene fabric. So once again I’m far from having found the ideal bikini for kitesurfing.

My absolut favorite bikini so far is made by my friend Adriana Ayala. I love the DRIKA tops with the front zipper. And all the performance bottoms she makes stay put no matter what! She is also very creative with the designs and colors.

As I can’t continue buying more and more bikinis and companies are barely willing to send you samples (If you think you have the perfect kitesurfing bikini for me, I DO ACCEPT SAMPLES! 😛 ),

so for now I will stick with my DRIKA bikinis and help spreading the word!

Did you have problems with the white getting dirty?

I had some black dirt on the bikini and surprisingly it washed off pretty easily.

Hi, I have a similar question as to whether or not the suit shows any stains. I occasionally get spray tans and am a rather frequent user of self tanner. Do you think that if any of the tanner were to rub off it would show on the bikini? and if so you you think it would be able to come off? I love the white color so much, but don’t know if its the best choice for me

Hi Allie, thanks for your question. I live in Venezuela where it’s always warm and sunny so I don’t use self tanner but lots of sunscreen. I also love the white color of the bikini. It really looks great. Dirt comes off pretty easily but I wouldn’t suggest getting spray tans on it as I imagine it stains. If you want to be 100% sure, you should use the Live Chat by TRIANGL bikini. They are really helpful and might have experience with self tanner. Make sure you mention that you found the bikini review on my blog 🙂 Here is a link: http://international.triangl.com

You should try Jolyn swimwear, they are a small company but their bikinis stay put. They have a lot of cool patterns/colors and all of the bikinis have ties on the waists and tops. I am not an ambassador for them just trying to help a fellow athlete out!
